JL Body Conditioning Keeps White Cloud a Step Ahead

The latest addition to the White Cloud repertoire of innovative technique comes by way of Julian Littleford of J.L. Body Conditioning. Littleford, who as a principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company for eight years, began his body conditioning training in London. He co-founded the Physical Mind Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and finally opened his own studio in southern California in 1990. He has been recognized for his knowledge and understanding of the body and unique approach to exercise by national magazines such as Elle and by many health journals. Among his enthusiasts are Mikhail Baryshnikov himself, as well as diet guru Jenny Craig and bestselling author Louise Hay.

The J.L. program is a hybrid of Julian’s own training and the theories of the late Joseph Pilates. His unique system supports White Cloud’s focus on creating long, lean flexible muscles while improving posture and correcting alignment. The methods are safe for those with injuries such as lower back pain and for pre and post surgery clients. Building muscle strength can often correct injuries and restore greater mobility without jarring the body. Julian believes in preserving the uniqueness and integrity of individual bodies rather than forcing a conventional and often unrealistic ideal. He works the body as a total unit to address proper alignment and to promote overall well-being. His ideas have provided a new dimension to the White Cloud classes.

White Cloud will continue to bring the latest from the West Coast to Cleveland. White Cloud Studios puts Cleveland at the forefront of the Pilates community

The first book explicitly written for Pilates teachers and body-mind professionals has finally arrived!

Nicola Conraths-Lange, on the faculty for Dance and Pilates at Wayne State University and a STOTT™ Pilates teacher, has spent over two years investigating teaching techniques and interviewing studio owners and top educators all over the United States and Europe.
The result is a hand’s on book that tackles all those issues we are passionate about:
Where is Pilates going in the 21st century?
What do we really want from our Pilates career?
How can we make our teaching more ergonomic?
How can we better handle “memorable” clients?
How do we juggle the challenge of being a helper/healer/cashier?

The book is packed with information, humor and advice from the industry's top educators: Brent Anderson, Kevin Bowen, Rael Isacowitz, Elizabeth Larkam, Moira and Lindsay Merrithew and Lynne Robinson share their life philos ophies and approach to the work of Joseph Pilates.

About this book:

" Niki's book goes beyond the practice of bodywork and looks deep into the practitioner, uncovering many truths. This book's ability to heighten the practitioner's awareness, mixed with her wit, makes for a great read." Brent D. Anderson, P.T., O.C.S.

“ We all need Survival Skills! I applaud Niki’s brave and ground-breaking endeavor to take on this monumental task. As a global community moving into the millennium we need to adapt to a new world order. At the same time we must embrace and preserve the legacy of Joseph Pilates and the gift of his work, despite the immensely different environment in which we are surviving. This book serves as a guiding light for students and teachers of Pilates and mind-body fitness in general. The key to the survival and perpetuation of Pilates, with the integrity it was intended, is cooperation and collaboration. This is the essence of survival not only for teachers - but for humankind.” Rael Isacowitz. Founder and Director, Body Arts and Science International

“Niki Conraths' book is suffused with her enthusiasm for the art of teaching Pilates. Instructors will find a compassionate advocate in “Survival Skills for Pilates Teachers: Thriving in the Mind-Body Fitness World.” Elizabeth Larkam, Director Pilates & Beyond

“ Whichever way you choose to use this book, USE IT. Let it become the bible in the midst of your Pilates books. Buy copies for friends and family. This book must be read! Thank you Niki for writing it.” Carolyne Anthony, Director The Center for Women’s Fitness
